What’s great is that while these instructions are written for how to replace a kitchen faucet, the same principles apply when replacing a bathroom faucet. So strike on, home repair enthusiast! You’ll knock this one out the park and be well on your way to installing your new bathroom faucet next week!

How To Replace A Kitchen Faucet:

Step 1: Turn off the water shut-off valves for the hot and cold water. These are typically located in the cabinet directly under the sink.

step 1

Step 2: Open up the faucet as if you were turning it on to relieve any built-up pressure. Some water may leak out but should stop completely. If the water doesn’t stop, your water shut-off values may not be working all the way, in this case, call a professional.

step 2

Step 3: Using an adjustable wrench and a pair of channel locking pliers, disconnect both of water lines from the faucet. If supply lines are old and gaskets are worn out, consider replacing them with flexible supply lines when you install the new faucet.

step 3

Step 4: Use a basin wrench or a socket wrench to remove the nut holding the faucet tailpiece assembly in place.

step 4

Step 5: The faucet should now be loose, so pull up on the faucet. You may need to wiggle just slightly to loosen the faucet; sometimes corrosion or grime can create a bit of seal.

step 5

Step 6: If your existing faucet has a spray hose, you’ll want to disconnect the hose from the faucet. You will also need to disconnect the sprayer from the sink basin by unscrewing the lock nut that holds it to the basin, which is located under the sink.

step 6

Step 7: Clean the area where the old faucet and sprayer rested on the sink.

step 7

How To Install The New Faucet

Step 1: Most sinks have three holes to accommodate the faucet. Measure the distance between the two outside holes to make sure your new faucet will either slip in or cover the existing holes. Your measurements should be measured from the center of one hole to the center of the other.

Keep in mind that some faucets have a single handle, a mixer, or two handles. Whatever the configuration, you will always connect the hot and cold water lines as well as a bolt that holds the faucet to the sink.

step 1

Step 2: Now you’re ready to set the new faucet in place. When you do so, you’ll need something to seal the base. Some faucets have a gasket that goes between the sink and the faucet. If this is the case put the gasket on the lip of the faucet plate and place the plate on the sink.

If you don’t have a gasket, you’ll need plumber putty to seal around the base. Simply place the faucet place on the sink and spread the plumbers putty around the connection point between the plate and the sink. This will keep water from leaking into the cabinet. See the plumbers putty for more instructions.

step 2

Step 3: Place the faucet into the hole or holes, depending on the style you selected, of the faucet plate.

step 3

Step 4: Located underneath the sink, thread on the flange and nut with a basin or socket wrench.

step 4

Step 5: If you are installing a pull-out faucet, you’ll also need to add the weight that will retract the sprayer. Simply slip the waterline through the weight before connecting the water lines to the shut-off valve(s).

step 5

Step 6: Attach the supply lines to the faucet and the shut-off valves below. Remember that the hot water goes on the left and the cold water goes on the right.

step 6

Step 7: Attach any accessories like water dispensers or soap dispenser according to the manufacturer’s directions.

step 7

Step 8: You are now ready to turn on the water and check for leaks. If you find a leak, try tightening the connections on the water supply lines.

step 8

Step 9: Pour yourself a cool glass of water – you did it!!
